On June 10, Zhou Zuyi, Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Fujian Provincial People’s Congress, met in Fuzhou with Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore.

On behalf of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, and the Provincial Government, Zhou extended a warm welcome to Speaker Seah Kian Peng and his delegation, and gave a brief overview of Fujian’s latest development. Zhou noted that China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and important partners. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, the China-Singapore all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership has made steady progress. Fujian and Singapore enjoy a long history of friendly relations and close exchanges. Guided by the blueprint for building a new Fujian mapped out by President Xi Jinping, the province is advancing high-standard opening-up, promoting high-quality development on all fronts, and accelerating the building of the demonstration zone for integrated cross-Straits development. All this creates a sound momentum for Fujian’s economic and social undertakings, and opens up broad prospects for its cooperation with Singapore. It is hoped that the Speaker’s visit will serve as a new opportunity to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of both countries. By further deepening cooperation between Fujian and Singapore in areas such as economy, trade, investment, industry, and people-to-people exchanges, the two sides can make due contributions to enhancing bilateral relations.

Seah Kian Peng noted that the friendly relations between Singapore and China are time-honored, adding that Singapore and Fujian share deep historical roots and cultural ties. He said that the delegation is deeply impressed by the tremendous progress made by Fujian and China as a whole, and stands ready to further advance cooperation with Fujian in areas such as digital economy, trade, port logistics, and people-to-people exchanges, in a bid to promote connectivity and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
