Festive Lantern Parade is a popular tradition in Fengting town, Xianyou county, Putian city, Fujian province, recognized as a national-level intangible cultural heritage item in the folk customs category.

Originating in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the Festive Lantern Parade has spanned centuries, characterized by warding off evil, welcoming auspiciousness, and praying for good weather and national prosperity. Through the lantern procession, locals come together to celebrate their community and enjoy the festivities.

The lantern parade takes place from the thirteenth to the seventeenth day of the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar, attracting thousands of participants. The elaborately decorated plaque is escorted by ceremonial teams. The lantern displays feature a spectacular array of designs such as centipede lanterns, pine tree lanterns, lotus lanterns, flower basket lanterns, butterfly lanterns, and dove lanterns. They also showcase a blend of drama, lantern art, and acrobatics that leave spectators in awe. Traditional dances along with dragon and lion dances also enhance the splendor of the Lantern Festival.

Rooted in the southeastern coastal regions and Southeast Asia, the lantern parade attracts around 40,000 to 50,000 spectators annually during the Lantern Festival. This event combines bonfires, lantern displays, deity processions, ancient rituals, martial arts performances, and various folk customs, integrating lantern art, traditional music, dance, drama, and acrobatics to create a unique artistic style that reflects the heritage of this ancient town over a millennium.
