National ICH: She medicine (traditional craftsmanship of meridian bone therapy)

She medicine originates from Bajing, a She ethnic village in Songshan town, Luoyuan county, Fuzhou city, Fujian province. It has been recognized as a national-level intangible cultural heritage item in the traditional medicine category.

Developed by the She people in response to specific historical and geographical conditions, She Medicine represents a unique form of healthcare.

During the reign of Emperor Chenghua of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Lei Anju and Lei Anhe, ancestors of the Lei family, migrated to Bajing village. To address injuries from martial arts practice, they integrated martial arts, acupoint therapy, and medicine, forming the prescriptions and craftsmanship of the meridian bone therapy passed down through generations.

She medicine embodies both the characteristics of the She ethnic group and its integration with Han culture, combining elements of both while also exhibiting distinct features.

Based on the "Liu Shen" theory, She medicine considers the body to be governed by six parts. Practitioners in Bajing village are known for expertise in martial arts and acupressure, excelling in pediatrics, orthopedics, and herbal treatments for various ailments.

She medicine reflects the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, offering valuable insights into She culture and lifestyle. However, with the decline of She ethnic traditions, She medicine faces the threat of extinction.
