Fujian traditional Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art that combines scientific theory with practical skills. It was first popular in the coastal areas of Fujian province and later spread to various places such as Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Yunnan. It has been recognized as a representative project of traditional sports, entertainment, and acrobatics in the fourth batch of national-level intangible cultural heritage.
Wing Chun utilizes principles of human biomechanics, lever structures, and trigonometry to analyze the weaknesses and strengths of individuals, focusing on female weaknesses and strengths.
By using one's strengths against the enemy's weaknesses, Wing Chun emphasizes speed, stability, precision, and fierceness, aiming to achieve the effect of turning the tide. It can enhance physical fitness and cultivate a rigorous mindset, agile responsiveness, and positive psychological qualities.
Fujian traditional Wing Chun venerates the Buddhist Nun Ng Mui as its founder. Its lineage is divided into generations, specifically named after the paths of Wing Chun, and it has been passed down to the 9th generation, known as the "Dao" generation (A way to name successors). Originating from Fujian, Wing Chun has gradually developed and spread across the nation and the world with the changing times.
Wing Chun has a profound influence with shared cultural roots between Fujian and Taiwan in martial arts and has also experienced significant development and popularity in Taiwan.
According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 80 countries worldwide, with approximately eight million people practicing Wing Chun, making it the largest single discipline of Chinese martial arts overseas.
