A delegation led by Yutaka Yokoi, Japanese Ambassador to China, visited Fujian from July 16 and 20.

On July 17, Secretary Yu Weiguo and Governor Tang Dengjie met with the delegation. Yu extended his welcome to Ambassador Yokoi for visiting Fujian following the Fujian promotion event in Beijing, and briefed him on the province’s latest development. He said that Fujian will implement the ten-point consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe this June. He noted the broad space for cooperation between Fujian and Japan, and called on the two sides to further strengthen business, trade, and sister-city ties and people-to-people exchanges to deliver more benefits to the two peoples.

Ambassador Yokoi spoke highly of Fujian’s tremendous changes in the past four decades of reform and opening up, and welcomed Fujian’s efforts in pursuing both high-quality economic development and a sound environment. Japanese business representatives in the delegation briefed their investment projects in China and future plans. Both sides reached understanding on raising cooperation to a new level by exploring the establishment of a demonstration zone in Fujian for Sino-Japan belt and road cooperation.

Vice Governor Guo Ningning attended the meeting.
