On March 6, Vice Governor Guo Ningning met with Mr. Khalil Shirgholami, Iranian Consul General in Guangzhou.

Vice Governor Guo first gave a brief introduction to Fujian’s latest economic and social development. She set out that Fujian has maintained close exchanges with Iran in recent years. Last year, trade between the two sides accounted for 5.57% of the total between Fujian and West Asia. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, the two sides could deepen Maritime Silk Road cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, connectivity, industrial capacity, and energy, which will deliver tangible benefits to the people of the two sides. Both Fujian and Iran value our time-honored friendship. Through people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and sister relationships, the two sides could further enhance mutual learning and mutual understanding.

Consul General Shirgholami said that ties between Iran and China date back centuries as the two countries were connected by the ancient Silk Road. Fujian, a pioneer of opening up in China, is full of vitality and has many fine practices that Iran can learn from. He recommended that Fujian and Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province, a province serving as Iran’s gateway to Europe, may strengthen exchanges and seek to establish sister-province relationship. The consulate general will make every effort to promote people-to-people exchange and trade between Iran and Fujian.
